MEL CHEMICALS WIN HEALTH & SAFETY AWARD

15 June 2007

MEL Chemicals, a member of the Luxfer Group of Companies based at Manchester, UK has been awarded one of the prestigious RoSPA Occupational Health & Safety Awards for 2007.

RoSPA, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, is a registered charity established over 80 years ago. The RoSPA Awards scheme celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 2006, making it one of the longest running and most highly respected occupational award programmes.

The Silver Award was presented to MEL Chemicals at a special ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, National Exhibition Centre, on May 22.

David Rawlins, RoSPA Awards Manager, said MEL Chemicals have demonstrated how seriously they take health and safety management and are a fine example to many other companies. We would like to see more organisations following their lead.

Dave Phelan, Site Operations Manager at MEL Chemicals said This award underscores the fantastic progress made over the last few years and reflects the collective efforts of everyone on site. The RoSPA Awards scheme has provided us with an excellent platform to build interest and enthusiasm. It has also given us the confidence that we can achieve world class performance in this important area.

The RoSPA Awards are not just about reducing the number of accidents and cases of ill-health at work; they help to ensure that organisations have good health and safety management systems in place. Entering the awards scheme reinforces the message that good health and safety is good business and clearly demonstrates Luxfer's commitment to the achievement of high levels of performance in this crucial area.
