MEL CHEMICALS GAIN ISO14001

MANCHESTER, (October 14, 2008)  MEL CHEMICALS have gained accreditation to the highly regarded Environmental Standard ISO14001.

The award was the culmination of a major effort by the whole workforce at MEL's Swinton, Manchester plant, developing procedures and adopting practices to ensure that the impact of its operation on its surrounding environment are minimised.

The photograph shows MEL's HSE Manager, Ged Beatty congratulating Leigh Stewart, who was part of the implementation team for the site, on the achievement of ISO14001. Also pictured are Steve Simister and Peter Staines who were also key members of the team. The picture was taken at one of several new spill control points, where rapid action with the right equipment can prevent a chemical or oil spill from becoming an environmental incident.
