Luxfer Magtech Recognized as a Sustainable Pittsburgh Workplace, Winning the Program’s 2023 Carbon Reduction Sprint in the Workplace Category

(Saxonburg, PA – July 29, 2024) Luxfer Magtech announced today that it has earned a Silver designation as a Sustainable Pittsburgh Workplace. As a Sustainable Pittsburgh Workplace, Luxfer Magtech has demonstrated its commitment to sustainable business strategies, including the responsible management of its environmental, social, and governance impacts.
Administered by the nonprofit Sustainable Pittsburgh, this program champions businesses, nonprofits, and other institutions that advance diverse communities and environmentally responsible practices. Workplaces are recognized with one of four levels of designation ranging from Bronze to Platinum.
Created through a national benchmarking of best practices and supported by the insights and expert guidance of a cross-sector group of sustainability professionals, the program features actions a workplace can take to advance its sustainability achievements. It is tailored for organizations of all sizes and sectors in southwestern Pennsylvania that are working to conserve resources, create more equitable communities, reduce costs, and make a valuable contribution to the local and regional economies in which they operate.
The Silver designation acknowledges Luxfer Magtech’s efforts in areas such as carbon reduction; diversity, equity, and inclusion; resource conservation; responsible sourcing; and product design. Luxfer’s CEO, Andy Butcher, states, “Luxfer Magtech’s participation in Sustainable Pittsburgh’s Workplace Designation Program aligns with our dedication to environmental stewardship, social impact, governance, and ethics. In addition to this designation, Luxfer Magtech is pleased to have earned the leading score in Sustainable Pittsburgh’s 2023 Carbon Reduction Sprint. During the six months of competition, Luxfer Magtech demonstrated its dedication to the reduction of carbon emissions by highlighting steps it has already taken to reduce its carbon footprint and by sharing our plan for future sustainability projects.
“Luxfer Magtech’s participation in the Carbon Sprint Challenge helped our Saxonburg facility develop and implement measurable actions to reduce the environmental impact of our operations on the communities in which we operate,” said Carlos Ortiz, Corporate ESG Specialist.
“Participation in the Sprint increased employee engagement, awareness, and encouraged execution of small, but impactful actions that reduce our carbon footprint and further our long-term sustainability goals. Some of the actions implemented at our Saxonburg facility which positively impacted our participation include turning off idle machinery, reducing heating and cooling in unoccupied buildings, LED lighting upgrades, and implementing equipment upgrades,” concluded Mr. Ortiz.
